Social Studies Field-based Learning Package
This Social Studies Field-based Learning (FbL) package, for use at the MOE Heritage Centre, is designed by Ms Irma Darny Swadi and Ms Shahneeza Lulkan, teachers at Tampines North Primary School.
Primary School teachers can make use of this package to guide their pupils in learning more about the contributions of the early settlers to education in Singapore. Pupils are encouraged to observe, reflect and deepen their own personal understanding of this topic.
Through this FbL, pupils will be able to appreciate the different people who had contributed and played a part in providing education to the different ethnic communities in early Singapore. They will also learn about the growth of education from the 18th century, to the pre and post war years till present days. Questions in both the iPod and the Worksheets have been designed to enable pupils to use critical analysing skills to understand life in the past. They will also be able to compare and contrast schools in the past with schools today.
Pupils will experience Self-Directed Learning (SDL) and Collaborative Learning (CoL) with the use of iPods.
The Lesson Plans and Worksheets are in MS Word format. Teachers are free to customise the materials to suit their students’ learning needs.
